Moonstruck in Manhattan (Harlequin Temptation, No. 860)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (December, 1901)
Author: Cara Summers
Average review score:

Vivacious and sparkling! Very highly recommended
Reporter Chelsea Brockway is a skeptical that a skirt can become a man-magnet, despite her best friend's claims. But when she catches the skirt, in lieu of the bridal bouquet, at her friend's wedding, Chelsea sees it as an opportunity to further her career. She spins several fun articles around the man-magnet skirt, three of which capture the eye of an editor at Metropolitan magazine.

Chelsea's plans come to a screeching halt, however, when Zach McDaniel takes over the helm of Metropolitan, planning to steer the magazine away from sensationalism in an effort to attract a highbrow audience. Although he intends sweeping changes in the magazine, he finds himself drawn into the skirt's allure. Chelsea persuades him to take a bet: If she can convince him of the skirt's allure, he'll print her article. If she can't, she'll walk away from the contract without pay. Zach accepts, figuring he can't loose.

Cara Summers' vivacious voice sparkles in MOONSTRUCK IN MANHATTAN. Her skillful manipulation of humor, implausibility, and love result in novel that is both smoothly sensual, and excitingly fabulous. Indeed, this unexpectedly thrilling plot combines with a sizzling romance guaranteed to add heat to the season's cold winter nights. Once again Summers demonstrates her mastery of the written word, making MOONSTRUCK IN MANHATTAN come very highly recommended.

Mother in Summer
Published in Hardcover by Triquarterly (April, 2002)
Author: Susan Hahn
Average review score:

another triumph for Susan Hahn
After reading Susan Hahn's remarkable book, Holiday, I thought I'd have to wait a few years for another. But, suddenly, Mother in Summer appears. What a devastating and brilliant collection, as complex and dazzling as Holiday, but in its own way. I imagine Susan Hahn never coming out of her room -- just writing and writing, oblivious and/or undistracted by the craziness of the poetry world and thereby able to give us such consistently expansive and extraordinary poems. But, perhaps, it's time for her to peek out--she just can't go this unnoticed any longer.

Navajo Summer
Navajo Summer

All the wheels on the bus go round and round as we left the town. About three miles away from my home, I started to cry because I felt that my brothers were going to get beaten like I did, it was horrible.
I need to jump off this bus and run home and save my family from being accused of doing stuff just so my father can get a hold of them and take his hands and smack and punch. Then I thought about it, well what if my dad threatens to kill my mother if she doesn't tell him where she is, so I didn't jump off I just stared out the window and imagined what my new life was going to be like. Well the bus ride took forever. (Papa used to take her to Chelly all the time and it is further then Navajo Country, it was a blast.) I miss my baby brothers and I want them to know that they have my pain and my sympathy.
As we arrived to Navajo County I ask a man I didn't even know for a ride to the Johnson's family; most likely he did and then asked for $2.00. I approached their house and knocked, I was so nervous I started to shake and fidget with things in my backpack. "Who is it?" asked Mrs. Johnson. "Navajo Summers!" I said. "Oh my gosh, what are you doing here all by yourself?"
You can read the book for yourself to figure out what Mrs. Johnson's says and how Navajo responds. I rated the book five out of five stars
Because this book is interesting and makes you want to keep your eyes on the pages and the book in your hands. I recommend this book to kids the ages of ten through twelve because there are some challenging words and some kids younger will not understand. I want to thank you for taking your time out of your day to read my summary about Navajo Summer!

Nehasane Fire Observer: An Adirondack Woman's Summer of '42
Published in Paperback by Nicholas K. Burns Publishing (13 August, 2002)
Author: Frances Boone Seaman
Average review score:

Interesting, easy to read story
Both my husband and I enjoyed this book. How many women would have even considered watching a fire tower middle of the Adirondacks back in 1942? The book is well written, easy to read and contains some interesting history from that time. I highly recommend it.

News from Lake Wobegon: Summer: Stories from the Collection
Published in Audio CD by HighBridge Company (May, 1997)
Author: Garrison Keillor
Average review score:

Summer classics from Lake Wobegon
Amongst the wonderful "News from Lake Wobegon" collections, this stands high as a personal favourite. Apart from the classic "Lving Flag" and "Tomato Butt", "The Tollefson Boy goes to College" and "Mrs Berge and the Schubert Carillon Piano" [with brilliant impersonations of the carillon piano] are strong, mixing acute observation of the humour, tedium and sadness of everyday life with just enough exaggeration to provide comic relief.

Throughout his life as owner and director of Blue Star Camps, Herman Popkin has touched the lives of literally thousands of people. His camp provides a second family to over 1,000 children every summer and has created a family for people all over the world.

One More River to Cross (Large Print)
Published in Hardcover by Ulverscroft Large Print Books (July, 1992)
Authors: S. E. Summers and Essie Summers
Average review score:

An Extraordinary author!
One of my favourite books from this author. Her books are always light, yet written with such wisdom, compassion and understanding. An Essie Summers tale would be incomplete without some twists and misunderstandings along the way. I have 43 of her books and plan to complete my library one day. An old-fashioned writer in the best sense of the world - how she will be missed.
